December 2011

As I look back on 2011, I think about all the amazing books I read and how I have learned from each and every one of them. I wanted to share some of them with you. I say “some of them” because I am sure I am missing a few. I challenge you to read the ones that are appropriate to your life. Reading is one of the best, least expensive ways to continue to grow in your knowledge.

Parenting Books I Read:

I tend to cycle through parenting books.  It is one of the jobs I take the most serious in life, so I want to constantly remind myself of my duties.  A little obsessive maybe, but I really do enjoy these books and I have no doubt that they make me a better father to my three girls:

Bringing up Girls by Dr. James Dobson
Daddy Dates by Greg Wright
Have A New Kid By Friday by Kevin Leman
Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters by Dr. Meg Meeker

Marriage Books I Read:

Mandy and I read these books and then discuss them on the podcast.  It is a subject I am extremely passionate about and love to soak up all the information I can on growing a strong marriage.

Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas
The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman
Stripped Down by Tony and Alisa DiLorenzo
The First Five Years of Marriage by Phillip Swihart and Wilford Wooten

Smart Couples Finish Rich by David Bach

Miscellaneous Books I Read:

Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton
The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness to Greatness by Stephen Covey
In a Heartbeat: Sharing the Power of Cheerful Giving by Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy

Business Books:

Lynchpin: Are You Indispensable by Seth Godin

Book Yourself Solid
by Michael Port

Let me know in the comments what books you read this year!

Thoughts on Christmas Chaos and Marriage

December 26, 2011

Mandy and I were laying there the night of Christmas after 3 days straight of mass chaos.  As we were falling asleep, she looked at me and said “thanks for all of your help with everything”.  Another reason to smile as I drifted off to sleep. We have always been good about not making a […]

How Compound Interest Works

December 23, 2011

Don’t worry, this isn’t going to be a long, boring economics class discussion.  My goal is to make this short and sweet.  Understanding the concept of compound interest can literally be the difference between becoming a millionaire or not.  It could mean the difference between retiring with dignity or not. Marriage Takes Perseverance

December 19, 2011

Perseverance seems so manly.  When I think of perseverance I think of some of the extremely tough athletes.  People like Ben Roethlisberger, Brett Favre and about anyone who plays hockey.  They are notorious for playing through pain, no matter how bad it hurts.  They are focused on one thing and one thing only, playing the […]
