We discussed how we are back at getting in shape using Thrive 90 and our plan going forward.

-Embrace difficulty in order to build character

*it’s impossible for us to grow spirituality without ever facing difficulty

* “few people leave a marriage because it’s too easy!”

*if you think about all of the great saints, they all faced difficulty, in most cases extreme difficulty

-Learn to appreciate struggle

*the most meaningful accomplishments in your life usually involve hard work/pain/etc.

-I think back to some of our most meaningful, memorable basketball wins that took extreme work and concentration, I don’t remember the blowouts

* “Ask yourself this question: Would I rather live a life of ease and comfort and remain immature in Christ, or am I willing to be seasoned with suffering if by doing so I am conformed to the image of Christ?”

*just the fact that we get up and publicly promise to love our spouse til death do us part proves that it is difficult.  Otherwise, the public promise would be unnecessary

-Sweet suffering

*if you are constantly living for ease and comfort, it will show you are living for your own glory instead of for God’s kingdom

* “A good marriage is not something you find, it’s something you work for!”

-Abraham Lincoln was a perfect example of a marriage building character

*his wife was basically nuts: she was terribly mean to everyone and exhibited extremely bizarre behavior

*his daily trials very well may have prepared him for his greatness as a President facing the extreme trials of a crumbling nation

*what a great lesson for all of us when facing difficulty in marriage: maybe that difficulty is shaping us to achieve greatness in other parts of our life

-Small Troubles

*It is again important to keep an eternal perspective

*often, are troubles and struggles will go unnoticed by others, but they will not go unnoticed in heaven

*Christianity doesn’t make a whole lot of sense without heaven

*it is never promised to us that we won’t experience trials on earth

-they are used to shape us and build our character
