Good marriage fosters good prayer

*prayer is the lifeblood of a Christian

*your prayer life changes when you get married: you can no longer come to God with your prayers as if you were a single man/woman

*prayer will not improve your marriage as much as your marriage will improve your prayer

-You must be careful to get wrapped up in “Christian accomplishments” at the expense of those close to you

*Jesus often left the crowds to tend to the individual, where we have a knack for leaving the individual (our spouse) to tend to the crowds (youth ministry, etc)

*our relationships-especially our marriages-are an integral part of our ministry

*ask your spouse if you are considerate of them: beg them to be honest

-Having sex in your marriage can help your prayer life and leaving you more relaxed and satisfied and not distracted out of frustration

-you don’t hear too many discussions about improving your prayer life that include the advice to have sex

-Resolving conflicts and not letting them fester will improve your prayer life

            – “If you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar.  First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift” (Matthew 5:23-24)

-let’s face it, it’s really hard to have good, solid prayer when we are brewing about something that happened with your spouse

-we have to reconcile with our spouse over and over again, it’s the only way for the marriage to survive and will also help our prayer life thrive

-“for the sake of prayer, it is essential that we live in unity.  For the sake of unity, our passions and desires must be God-directed”

-You can even use your passion and feelings you have for your spouse during sex as a guide to approach God in the same way

-mostly in the sense of completely losing yourself in Him
