In this episode of the Beyond Your Wedding Day Podcast, Mike interviews Matt Jabs from debtfreeadventure.com and diynatural.com.

Mike explains how Matt and he connected through Matt doing a show on CoachRadio.

Matt explains how he has been married to his wife, Betsy for just over 6 years.

Matt and Betsy went through a process of discerning what God wants them to do with their careers through the passions and gifts He has given them.

Matt set up the website to help keep them accountable.  Pay off debt, save, give, and live your mission is the mission of Debt Free Adventure.

They had about a $6,000 auto loan and $5,000 in credit card debt in about 7 months when they first started  their debt free adventure.  They are now saving for their next auto, building an emergency fund, and paying off their student loan.

They started getting out of debt because they were tired of having debt even though they were making good money.  The ultimate reason was because of the bondage it caused: namely, not being able to leave a job he was unhappy in.

Spouses must get on the same page financially!   Classes like Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey or working with a financial coach (like Mike!)  are a great way to do that.  It’s best to approach your spouse in a manner that tells them this is extremely important to you.

Living on a budget is both the hardest and easiest part of getting out of debt.  It is also the most vital.  So, stop making excuses and do it today!

You’ll appreciate each other and the little things more often after you start sacrificing for your budget.

Studying the Bible together is a foundation for your money and your marriage.

I’d love to help you and your spouse or fiance get on the same page financially. Here’s how.

Mike thanks for having Matt on your show. His real life
example of getting on the same with his spouse and how they came to realize
that eating out was a luxury and not a necessity was really neat.

Thanks Jonathan.  I really enjoyed having him.  Before we had kids, my wife, Mandy and I, were terrible about going out to eat, too.  Now that we don’t near as often, we enjoy it even more!
