In this episode of the Beyond Your Wedding Day Podcast, we discuss contentment.  Contentment as a means for building financial wealth and contentment as a means for a happy, strong marriage.

Living on less than you make sounds simple, but many of us don’t which is why the average household consumer debt is $30,000.

1 Timothy 6:6 tells us that “Godliness actually is a means of great gain, when accompanied by contentment”

Contentment means not trying to keep up with the Jones’s.

Couple 1: $15,000 in a savings account, 2 paid for vehicles: 6 years and 4 years old, zero credit card debt.  They have $150,000 in a Roth IRA and have started college funds for their children.They have 3 years left to pay on their $110,000 home.  Their income: $40,000 per year.

Couple 2: $50 in a savings account, $45,000 in credit card debt, drive 2 really nice leased cars for $600/month each.  They have $30,000 in a 401k but they borrowed against it to do “much needed” remodels to the kitchen.  They 20 years left to pay on their $250,000 home.  Their income: $90,000 per year.

Which has more contentment and sleeps well at night: Obviously, couple 1!

The biggest danger sign to know that you’re not in contentment land anymore: “We’ll be happy when…”
